EN: People keep asking me if I get any sleep. Well, I do, but not a lot. Despite the fact that Nicky sleeps through the night, by the time I finish playing catch up with work, it's usually past midnight, and the following day my morning starts rather early.

Last week, after realizing I've become a sleep-deprived momma beast, I've finally let myself crash. I ignored work and house chores for a day and did what everyone recommends - slept when the baby slept. I felt more like myself when I woke up, but then spent three days struggling to tie loose ends up at work.

Despite working from home, which a lot of people view as a leisurely past time, I still struggle to get everything done. It's true that I don't have to be away from my baby, but sometimes you have to be away or it's impossible to work. As time goes by, I'm learning the true meaning of multitasking - typing with one hand, holding the baby with another and staring longingly at a sandwich I never got to eat, wishing I had a third hand.

I know one day it will get easier. Nicky will become more independent. Perhaps I'll finally cave in and get a nanny, or at least a cleaning lady. But for now, I'm just a working stay at home mom, who's always on the run.

Watch them grow

EN: I have very little patience. I couldn't wait to get out of high school. Couldn't wait to start working in the real world. Couldn't wait to move out of my parents' house. It drives me crazy to inertly wait for things to take place. I must be actively involved in everything.

When my son was born, I started buying him all kinds of developmental books and toys. Than I realized that he had no use for them yet. He had no use of his hands yet!! :) There was nothing I can do to make him learn faster. At best, I could create a stimulating environment and watch and wait.
Certain things we did, like swimming and baby exercises helped his motor skills. Talking to the baby, reading, tummy time, all these things are wonderful, but most milestones occur when baby is ready and there isn't much you can or should do to influence that.

However, last week Nicky learned to flip over and now he's attempting to crawl. I watch him with a mix of pride and fear because I am not ready for him to become mobile and independent. As much as I have been waiting for him to learn to sit, stand and walk, I am scared of it just as well.

This year, I cannot wait for winter to be over. I am so tired of bulky warm clothes so I bought this bright yellow coat, and, of course, froze my butt in it in the freezing New York weather. Now I am accepting that parenthood requires infinite amounts of patience and that I shouldn't rush things. A few more days in Sorel boots won't kill me, and when winter is over and it's time to put all the warm gear away, my baby no longer be a newborn. I am savoring every day I have of him being little, and researching baby proofing. Soon, it will be warm and Nicky will be on the move!

Winter Uniform

EN: It feels like this winter has lasted forever. So much has happened in the last three months and yet, my days seem to resemble one another. I go through the same cycle of feeding, cleaning, shopping, cooking, bath time, play time, nap time and so on. Every minute of each day I feel like someone needs my attention. And although I seem to do a million things every day, I still have a million more that never gets done.

Very often, I find myself wearing the same thing. I call it "the uniform" - heavy knit or cashmere sweater, skinny jeans, my Timberland or Sorel boots, Eugenia Kim wool head wrap, and either my light packable Calvin Klein jacket or a heavier down coat. I don't get to be too creative with my outfit since it has been bitterly cold for what feels like forever.

I desperately need something new in my life, or at least some warmer weather. I'm hoping to learn to multitask better and not get too overwhelmed. I'm trying to enjoy every minute with Nicky because he's growing so fast. And I'm waiting for spring, so I can finally put my winter uniform away!!!

Breastfeeding Inspirations

Breastfeeding meme

EN: Feeding baby is a hot topic with all moms. It's a personal choice, but whatever you do, someone will always criticize your decisions. You are bound to hear different things from different people and they will contradict each other so much it will make your head spin:

  • Babies should only drink momma's milk.
  • Babies sleep better on formula.
  • You should breastfeed for a year or longer.
  • You shouldn't breastfeed for more than a year.
  • You should introduce the bottle early so that the baby can learn to take it.
  • Don't introduce the bottle too soon; it will create nipple confusion.
  • You shouldn't have [dairy, eggs, soy, wheat, chocolate, caffeine, alcohol, broccoli, almonds, peppermint, cabbage, beans, citrus and a hundred other things.]
  • You should eat a balanced diet so baby can have plenty of nutrients.
  • Pump!
  • But don't start pumping too early!
  • Create an oversupply so you can build a stash.
  • Be careful not to create an oversupply because it can lead to clogged ducts and mastitis.
  • Put the baby on the boob as much as possible.
  • Make sure you don't get the baby too attached to the breast.

Holy hair

How to stop hair from falling out after giving birthHow to stop hair from falling out after giving birth

EN: I've heard that hair may start thinning and falling out a few months after giving birth  (as if not enough dramatic changes have happened already!) So, before that starts to happen, I wanted to write a post on how I take care of my locks on daily basis.

First, it's totally normal to loose hair postpartum. During pregnancy your body makes more estrogen so hair and nails grow faster. After you have the baby, estrogen levels drop and you are shedding more until the hormone levels even out (sometime by baby's first birthday.)

However, if you want to counteract this, here are a few things you can do:
