How to Dress Your Kids for Fall

Hello, October! Wasn't it like 80-something just a few days ago and everyone was complaining about the heat? Same people are now complaining about the cold! It is that confusing season, when you aren't sure weather to put on sandals or boots, long sleeve or short sleeve, jacket or no jacket, wrap yourself in a scarf and put on mittens or bring a bathing suit. It can be even more confusing if you have to dress a kid! (Look back at my spring post about what to dress your child in at different temperatures!)

This time last year, Nicky was one well-dressed infant, if I dare say so myself! This year, however, I am in some sort of denial about summer being over and I am yet to buy him his cold weather gear. That said, my resistance was officially broken yesterday, when my son simply looked at me and said "Mama, cold!", while pointing outside.

Although we already had some wool sweaters and a super cute Aston Martin blazer from Little Rags & Riches, toddlers can be unpredictable people and I knew we will need a lot more stuff! So I spent the night on my laptop browsing Nordstrom Rack, Century 21, Bloomingdale's and Ralph Lauren Friends & Family sales, as well as Carters, Old Navy, Joe Fresh and H&M.

I ended up getting a ton of great stuff for him (and a few things for me, haha :) at pretty good prices and I can't wait to share his new looks with you! (Follow my Instagram to see his outfits!) How To Dress Baby for Spring

It is very challenging to keep your little ones warm and stylish during the spring months with the weather constantly changing. When we leave the house in the morning, it's cold. By the time we get to the playground the sun comes out and it gets much warmer. On the way home it starts to rain and then the wind picks up. I always have a back up outfit with me in case Nicky will get too hot or too cold. Finally, after a few weeks of these up and down temperatures, I feel like I've mastered getting my son dressed for any sort of weather. Below I listed our outfits by temperatures along with some suggestions for your stylish kids for spring:

Blizzard 2016

EN: We are completely and totally snowed in! When they said there is going to be a blizzard, we thought, oh, it might snow a bit. But no one was expecting the roads to be shut down and for the snow to pile up as high as two feet!! Despite all the warnings, we ventured outside because everyone started to develop cabin fever. Nicky stubbornly held on to my hand and dragged me into the snow. I am now super thankful for all the winter gear I got for Nicky and myself as we came home still warm, dry and very happy to be back inside :))

RU: Нам обещали что будет снегопад, а мы не верили. И еще смеялись, какие очереди в магазинах, чего это все бросились закупаться едой. Но сейчас, когда выпало уже больше пол-метра, снег все идет, ветер сдувает с места, а в городе ввели комендантский час, нам уже не смешно. И я очень рада, что запаслась вчера едой, водой, и самое главное, памперсами)) Все же, не смотря на запреты, мы два раза выбрались сегодня на улицу, ибо дома сидеть уже совсем невмоготу. Николай хмуро взял маму за руку и повел в сугроб. Ветер его сносит, а он все равно целенаправленно идет и идет... Гулять так гулять! Вернувшись после этого всего домой, я подумала как же хорошо, что я затупилась не только едой и памперсами, но и хорошей зимней одеждой. Вот что мы носим в снег:

He's One!

EN: Last night I nursed my infant for the last time. I gave him a bath and wrapped him in his green froggy towel. I sang him a song, read him a book and gave him a million kisses before putting him down in his crib. I told him I love him and crept out of his room. Quietly, I shut the door. Sank to the floor in the hallway. And wept silently.

This morning when he wakes up he will be One years old. I will give him a million kisses, hug him tightly and sing him a silly good morning song. I will cuddle him and tickle him. It will be like every other morning except it won't be. I will nurse him while laying in bed as always. But he won't be an infant anymore. He will be a rambunctious and strong-willed toddler. It will be a new day and a beginning of a new chapter for us. 

This year went by too quickly. I already miss the tiny little human being placed in my arms a year ago in the hospital. I miss his first smile, his first grasp, his first steps. We have so much more ahead of us. But so much is now behind us. My sweet little boy has turned one years old. I'm so proud of him. I'm so blessed to have him. And I cannot wait to see what the next year will bring!



RU: Вчера вечером, я покормила своего малыша перед сном. Я искупала его и завернула в зеленое полотенце с капюшоном в форме лягушки. Я спела ему песенку, прочитала книжку и тысячу раз поцеловала перед тем как положить в кроватку. Я сказала ему, что люблю его, пожелала спокойной ночи и тихонечко вышла из комнаты. Еле слышно притворила дверь. Села на пол в коридоре. И разревелась.

Сегодня утром, когда он проснется, ему будет Годик. Я снова его зацелую, крепко обниму и спою ему песенку о добром утре. я залезу с ним в кровать и буду его щекотать пока он кушает, буду слушать как он смеется и балдеть от счастья. Это будет самое обычно утро. Но оно будет совсем другое. Он больше не будет младенцем, теперь ему годик. Сегодня начнется новая глава в нашей с ним жизни.

Год пролетел нереально быстро. Вроде совсем недавно мне на грудь положили комочек человеческого счастья, и вот он уже бегает. Первая улыбка. Первые шажки. Первое "мама". Все это останется в том году. Я буду очень скучать за этими днями. И с нетерпением жду что будет дальше :)

Polo Ralph Lauren in Peter Pan Neverland Kids Fashion Show 2015

EN: Last week I got an invitation to the enchanted forest - that is what Ralph Lauren has turned Central Park Zoo into for their Children's Fashion Show. The amazing event was held together with "Pan," the movie coming out in October, based on the original story of Peter Pan. It celebrated a wonderful cause of promoting kids' literacy, something so important to me personally (as I wrote before here.)

Since Ralph Lauren is one of the most popular labels my customers shop for, it was exciting to get the first glimpse of the winter collection, which is already available online. I was mesmerized by the beautiful decorations and fun and modern ways of styling Ralph Lauren's classic pieces. Polos over dress shirts, rolled up jeans, tall socks with dresses and skirts, all surrounded by flowers, fairies, pirate hats and greenery - that was the feel of the show. To paint a better picture, I took lots of images for you. Here's the world of Pan, as seen by Ralph Lauren.

RU: На прошлой неделе я попала в сказку - организованную американской маркой одежды Ralph Lauren и фильмом, который выходит в Октябре этого года, "Pan" - по сказке Питер Пэн. Сказка представляла из себя показ детской моды в зоопарке в Central Park и проводилась в поддержку детского фонда посвященного грамотности. 

Ralph Lauren - марка номер один среди моих покупателей детской одежды уже не первый год. Поэтому мне было особо интересно оказаться на показе чтобы одной из первых показать Вам одежду, которая будет доступна вашим деткам этой осенью и зимой. Часть коллекции уже в продаже - тут. Показ превзошел мои ожидания - из классической одежды, марка Ralph Lauren превратилась в микс Гарри Поттера и Карибских Пиратов. Среди цветов и зелени Central парка, детки ходили в пиратских шляпах и с крылышками эльфов, прямо как в сказке о Питере Пэне. Сам Ральф вышел в конце показа в окружении малышей, со всеми здоровался и улыбался. После показа нас угощали сладостями, девушка на ходулях, украшенная цветами, выполняла завораживающий танец, а потом детки окружили небольшой бассейн, где пять морских котиков устроили еще один показ. Надеюсь получить такое приглашение еще раз в следующем году и привести туда Николая :) А пока смотрите фото и делайте заказы к холодам!

Spring Clothes For Baby

Spring is a beautiful time. Trees are blossoming,  grass is turning green, it is finally warm outside,  but not quite warm enough. Moms are often concerned how to dress their little ones so they aren't too warm or too cold. I'm going to share some of our outfits and some suggestions on what to dress the baby in this season.

Наконец-то наступила весна! Травка зеленеет, деревья цветут, на солнышке тепло, но в тени еще прохладно. И непонятно во что одевать ребенка - и кутать не хочется, и боишься чтоб не продуло. Поделюсь с вами нашими весенними нарядами в  эту непонятную погоду.

Keeping Baby Warm: Snowsuit Review

EN: Nicky really enjoys being outdoors and I love taking him out in out Combi Catalyst transformer stroller. He falls fast asleep, I find a nice secluded bench and get an hour of uninterrupted much-needed work time. Win-win. But to be outside in the cold for an hour baby must be well dressed in order to stay warm and be able to sleep. With my years of experience as a personal shopper and two months worth of mommy knowledge I wrote a review of the best snowsuits to keep your baby cozy and happy during the winter months.

EN: Nicky turned two months old a week ago and he measured almost two feet and over twelve pounds at his last doctor's appointment! My little man is growing up!! And growing out of his clothes. So last week after the doctor's visit I went through his closet and started putting away his newborn and 0-3 mo outfits and ordered him some new onesies, shirts and sweaters in size 3-6 month. Now I am ready to review some of the brands that Nicky wears and recommend what's best to buy for newborn. 

• Onesies are most convenient for us since we don't swaddle (free spirit here wants to have his arms out and up at all times!) 
• Onesies with zippers are easiest to put on, however, they have to be completely unzipped in order to do a diaper check. For that reason, I prefer snaps.
• Anything that goes over the baby's head is a pain for everyone to put on. But once it's on, it's very easy for diaper changes. Until it has to come off again.
• Babies have a hard time controlling their body temperature when they are little so keep them warm. Put on a plain side snap shirt (these Little Me shirts are my favorite) underneath  their outfit and socks for extra coziness.
• Your child is likely to grow out of size Newborn in the first two weeks of life. Best to buy sizes 0 to 3 month. When in doubt, always get a bigger size - baby can always grow into it and bigger is easier to put on!

EN: I know this is a bit late in the season, but being a new mommy I find myself constantly running behind these day. If, like me, you have been putting off (or completely forgetting) to create a wish list for your baby for the holidays or still can't find the right gift for a little one, here are some ideas to help you out! Better late than never :)

EN: Black & White Baby Books: I'm a huge bookworm and it's one of the things I am adamant about passing on to my son. I wanted to introduce him to books as early as possible so that he will always have them in his life. Black and white books are made for infants to accommodate their limited vision - they feature black and white shapes which are easy for little eyes to follow. We have "read" a book called Black and White by Tana Hoban (who has a whole line up of infant books) and now want to try out Baby Animals Black and White by Phyllis Tildes.

RU: Черно-белые Детские Книги: Я не представляю жизни без книг и очень хочу поделиться этим пристрастием со своим сыном. Поэтому знакомство с книгами у нас началось, в полном смысле, с пеленок.  Черно-белые книги специально сделаны для младенцев, чьи глаза еще плохо различают цвета, зато уже могут видеть белые формы на черном фоне, и наоборот. Мы уже "прочитали " книгу Tana Hoban "Black and White" (у этого автора есть целая линейка книг для младенцев), и теперь ждем следующую, с черно-белыми  зверюшками от Phyllis Tildes.

EN: Baby Floor Gym: There are only so many things you can do with a baby in his first months of life. Babies eat, sleep, pee and poop. But for the times they are awake there are a few things you can do to help them develop. Floor gym is a perfect place for you and baby to interact while working on their hand-eye coordination and head balance. It is perfect for tummy time, encourage baby to reach for things and explore their hands and is a lot of fun for both of you. Nicky has a Baby Einstein Floor Gym and he loves it! For Christmas, we are also looking to get him a Fisher Price Piano Gym or a Kick and Play Piano.

RU: Baby Floor Gym: Я постоянно переживаю что не достаточно занимаюсь ребенком.  Но в его 6 недель все что он делает - это ест, спит и наполняет подгузники. Поэтому я старательно ищу подходящие его возрасту занятия для тех нескольких часов между сном и кормлением которые мы можем провести вместе. Baby gym - самое подходящее развлечение для нас. Он помогает развивать шею, тянуться ручками к висящим над ребенком игрушками, и просто нравится Николаю Степановичу (у нас Baby Einstein Floor Gym). Там можно и на животике полежать, и в зеркало посмотреть,  и маме поулыбаться :) На Новый Год мы попросили у Деда Мороза еще один gym, с пианино от Fisher Price по которому можно стучать маленькими ножками.

EN: Baby Vac Nasal Aspirator - a friend messaged me with so much excitement about this device. It sucks out boogies :) She told me she couldn't believe how much mucus her son had up there. So she got me curious. I want to try it out too now :)) It helps baby breath easier and will certainly come in handy throughout the winter months.

Humidifier - This is another item that will help not only the baby, but the whole family breath better. Before the baby was born, we purchased a humidity & temperature measuring tool and I kept an eye on it as the winter months crept up. As the heat went on in the apartment, humidity level began to drop. It is recommended to keep it between 50 and 70% for the baby to sleep well at night, but in our home it measured in the 30s. We purchased Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier which brought the humidity up to 50s and it has helped us all sleep better.

RU: Аспиратор для носа - подруга написала мне недавно с таким восторгом! - они купили эту штуку для маленьких носиков и она не могла поверить сколько всего удалось высосать из ее сына :)) Я решила что нам такое тоже надо, интересно же!))

Увлажнитель воздуха - эта штука помогает всей семье спать по ночам. Перед рождением малыша я купила градусник который измеряет не только температуру воздуха в помещении, но и влажность. Когда наступили холода и включилось отопление,  оказалось что влажность у нас дома слишком низкая -30% вместо 50% или выше. Я купила увлажнитель воздуха Vicks, и теперь все спят гораздо лучше!

EN: Gobbi Mobile - I've discovered my baby absolutely loves mobiles! He stares up at them and they help him fall asleep. For Christmas, I want to experiment with a Gobbi mobile, which, according to the school of development by Montessori, should be introduced to babies around 6 weeks of age. It helps develop eye sight and encourages focus and concentration. It is a mobile with 5 balls in different shades of one color. They can be purchased on Etsy or made yourself.

RU: Каруселька Гобби - Николаю очень нравятся карусельки которые вешают над кроваткой. Он лежит, разглядывает, слушает песенки,  и иногда даже засыпает :) Согласно школе развития Монтессори, такие карусельки очень полезны для маленьких и их стоит менять регулярно чтобы малышу было интересно. В возрасте 6 недель Монтессори рекомендует карусели Гобби - 5 шариков одного цвета, но разных оттенков и, желательно, разных текстур. Гобби помогает развивать зрение, фокусирование и концентрацию. Такие карусельки можно купить на Etsy или сделать самому.

EN: Baby Bjorn BabySitter Balance - this is something I spied at a friend's house. It is a bouncy chair which is baby-operated - it rocks when baby moves, so not only does it sooth him, but it also provides a work out for the little one which wears him down. We currently have a Fisher Price swing which plugs into an outlet and also rocks the baby to sleep (and does a great job at it!), but I like the idea of the baby powering the swing himself. My friend's four months old seemed to love this BabySitter very much and I think Nicholas would enjoy it too!

RU: Baby Bjorn BabySitter Balance - Эту штуку я подглядела у подруги. BabySitter - это стульчик который укачивает ребенка. Но, в отличии от других подобных качалок, этот качается когда ребенок двигается. Он помогает уложить малыша спать потому что ребенок не только засыпает от качания, но и устанет сам его качать и уснет еще быстрее. Сейчас мы пользуемся качелькой от Fisher Price - ее можно включить в розетку и она качает малыша и поёт песенки, но мне нравится идея BabySitter потому что она дает ребенку физическую нагрузку. Малышу моей подруги сейчас 4 месяца и ему очень нравится этот стульчик. Мне кажется что Николаю он бы тоже пришелся по душе!

EN: Melissa & Doug Toys - one of my favorite brand for toys is Melissa & Doug. If you are at a loss on what to get as a gift - go with this brand :) It offers a wide selection of wooden developmental toys for children of all ages. We are slowly accumulating them, thanks to Grandma and Grandpa :) These are a few of the ones that we already have, now I just have to wait for Nicky to be old enough to enjoy them!

RU: Игрушки Melissa & Doug - одна из моих любимых фирм игрушек. Если Вы не знаете что купить ребенку - смело покупайте товары этой марки. Melissa & Doug делает деревянные игрушки для всех возрастов которые способствуют развитию и мышлению.  Благодаря бабушке и дедушке они постепенно заполняют нашу детскую. Теперь осталось только дождаться когда Николай подрастет немножко чтобы играть с ними!

EN: Fred's Swim Academy - One thing that is crucial for a child's development is learning how to swim. It helps them strengthen their muscles, develop life-saving instincts, learn a valuable skill and get acquainted with water. The earlier you start, the better. From 5 weeks old, I fill up a full-size tub for Nicky, lay him on my hand and allow him to float. He enjoys this a lot more than a bath in a kid-size Whale tub we originally got for him. In fact, the first time we tried it he was so relaxed he started to fall asleep! I want to continue his swimming lessons by introducing the Fred's Swim Academy Swim Trainer, which is a blow up raft designed to teach babies how to swim. It supports their head while positioning them at the right angle to enjoy water naturally. Babies are born with an instinct to wiggle their arms and legs when placed in water - they are born swimmers. It is important to foster this instinct before they are 3 months old or it may fade away. That's why the Swim Trainer is a great idea. I am looking forward to introducing this vest to Nicky's bath time soon!

RU: Круг для плаванья Fred's Swim Academy - Очень важно научить ребенка плавать, и чем раньше начать - тем лучше. У новорожденных есть инстинкт - если их положить в воду они автоматически начинают двигать ножками и ручками чтобы удержатся на плаву. А если их опустить под воду - они инстинктивно задерживают дыхание. Эти инстинкты важно поддержать и развить до 3 месяцев, иначе они могут исчезнуть. С 5 недель мы забросили детскую ванночку в форме кита которая мне так нравилась по началу. Теперь мы набираем "взрослую" ванную, я кладу Николая Степановича на спинку, держу головку и он лежит на воде. Ему это нравится гораздо больше чем сидеть в детской ванночке; первый раз когда я попробовала с ним так поплавать он даже стал засыпать в воде! Теперь я хочу попробовать круг Fred's Swim Academy который учит малышей плавать - он держит их головку и помогает лечь на воду под правильным углом. Со следующего года мы обязательно его опробуем!

EN: Balaclava Hat - My husband and I constantly argue about this - I keep putting hats on our son and he keeps telling me to take them off (he thinks Nicky looks silly in them.) However, in the winter months, baby must wear a hat! (No one wants to spend sleepless nights with a wailing child because of an ear infection.) I found it very hard to buy hats that will stay put on a squirming baby. Most fall off within minutes and I was only able to find two that would tie under the baby's chin and cover his ears well - one from Carters and one from Amazon. To remedy the situation,  my mom knitted us one. However, on my search for the perfect hat, I came across Balaclavas for baby. These hats are one-piece that go over the baby's head and neck, cover his ears and forehead, keep him warm and protect him from wind. Since we go on daily strolls for at least an hour at a time, this will definitely come in handy for us!

RU: Шапки Балаклава - Мы с мужем  постоянно спорим по поводу головных уборов - я одеваю шапочки на Николая Степановича,  а он их снимает.  Говорит что ребенок в них глупо выглядит. Но малыш должен быть в шапке зимой т.к. с больными ушами сидеть никто не хочет. В Америке оказалось сложно найти шапку с ушками,  да такую чтоб завязывалась и не слетала. Одну я нашла в Carters, другую на Amazon, а третью нам связала бабушка. А пока я их искала, наткнулась на Балаклаву - это шапочка цельная, закрывает и лоб, и уши и шею, и вот она уж точно не слетит. Мы с Николаем гуляем каждый день на свежем воздухе по часу, так что она нам на следующей год очень пригодится!

EN: Diapers - If you are ever at a loss to what to get a new mommy, just buy diapers. Babies seem to go through them at a lightening speed. (You need about ten a day!) We use Pampers Swaddlers in size 2. I've learned this month that it's best to buy a bigger size if you aren't sure which one your baby will need to avoid a messy explosion and a frantic run to the laundromat.

RU: Подгузники - Если вы совсем не можете придумать что подарить семье с новорожденным - дарите подгузники.  Они лишними никогда не бывают - за день уходит штук десять. Мы пользуемся Pampers Swaddlers и перешли сейчас на 2ой размер. Я теперь знаю что лучше чтоб подгузник был чуть больше,  иначе придется постоянно все застирывать.

Whenever I come across a product someone recommends, I look it up on Amazon (often via their phone app, sometimes while feeding Nicky at 3 am :) to read more about it and see the reviews. I have discovered many great items this way such as Miracle Blankets, Earth Mama products, WubbaNub pacifiers and many more. If you want to give a great gift for an expecting family or any mom with a child, Amazon Mom yearly membership is a fantastic present!

Shopping for Baby

EN: This must be one of my favorite pictures of my husband. A couple months back when I was less pregnant and more mobile we took a ride up to Woodbury and had a lovely day shopping for Baby. These adorable Ralph Lauren sneakers were our first purchase together and something my husband picked out for his son. He was the proudest daddy ever :)

When the time comes to buy all the things baby needs, my advice is to get as many people involved as possible because the list of must-haves gets quite extensive (see more below with links!). 

Of course, not everyone will be as excited as this daddy-to-be. For example, this is as happy as our cat gets when mentioning baby - she's still a kid, loves attention and I'm worried that she will get jealous (shortly after this picture was taken, she grabbed one of the cute little booties and left with it. I had to fight her to get it back!)

Пару месяцев назад, когда мы с Baby еще не были такие большие, мы всей семьей поехали по магазинам в Woodbury с целью приобрести кое-что из одежды для малыша. Мой Стефен сразу схватил эти кроссовочки от Ralph Lauren и больше с ними не расставался. Потом ходил весь день со своей покупкой и прямо святился от гордости :)

Ради таких моментов и стоит ходить по магазинам вместе. Вообще, когда дело идет о покупках для малыша, стоит вовлечь в этот процесс как можно больше людей (друзей, родственников и т.д.) потому что список необходимого - не маленький и самому это все не осилить (ниже с посте есть примерный список, с ссылками!)

Конечно , не все будут так увлечены покупками как наш будущий папочка. Например, наша кошка не выражает особого энтузиазма при упоминании о ребенке - она любит внимание и, боюсь, будет ревновать. А едва я сделала этот кадр с ней и ботиночками для Baby,  как она схватила один из них и удрала (я потом гонялась за ней минут 15 чтобы получить ботинок обратно!!) 

EN: The most fun part, of course, is clothes shopping. They are all so cute, so tiny and so precious. It's very easy to get carried away and end up with a full closet before the baby even gets here. So here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Babies grow. And rather quickly - they will double their birth weight in just about three months! With that in mind, don't buy too many small sizes. The size on the label means that this is approximately the age when the baby will outgrow the item. So if the label says 3 months - expect it to fit up to 3 months of age. For baby's arrival, I recommend buying clothes mostly in sizes 3 mo and 6 mo, and just a few pieces in size Newborn (expect the baby to outgrow those by 3-4 weeks of age). 

2. Buy practical. Yes, everything in the store very cute and it's hard to focus. You end up with a full shopping cart before you realize it. But before you check out, make sure the items you are buying will be comfortable for the baby, not just precious to you. Look for things like easy snaps, zippers and stretchy neck holes so you won't have to battle your infant to get her in and out. 

3. Look at the fabric. Pediatricians recommend dressing the baby in cotton for the first year of life to avoid rashes and other skin reactions. Check the label to make sure what you are buying isn't 100% polyester, even if it feels soft and cushy. This goes not only for clothes, but for bedding and swaddling/receiving blankets as well.

RU: Самое интересное во всем этом процессе это, конечно, - покупать одежду для малыша. Оно все такое крошечное и чудесненькое что глаза разбегаются и хочется Все! Вот пару вещей которые стоит держать в уме чтобы не понакупить кучу ненужного:

1. Дети растут быстро. В возрасте 3ех месяцев они уже весят в 2 раза больше чем на момент рождения. Учитывая это, не покупайте слишком много вещей в маленьких размерах. Американские размеры идут по месяцам и размер на этикетке означает примерно тот возраст, после которого ребенок перерастет эту вещь. То есть, если на этикетке написано 3 месяца - к трем или после 3ех месяцев вещь уже будет мала. Для новорожденных, я рекомендую покупать одежду в размерах 3 mo и 6 mo, и несколько вещей в размере Newborn (из которого ребенок вырастет примерно к 3-4 неделям).

2. Покупайте практичные вещи. Да, в магазинах оно все очень симпатичное, но не забывайте что вы покупаете не для себя и не для красоты, а для ребенка. Так что прежде чем расплатится за покупку, удостоверьтесь что то что вы выбрали можно будет одеть на малыша без особых затруднений (посмотрите есть ли на вещи пуговицы, а лучше - кнопки, молния или широкая горловина). 

3. Обратите внимание на состав. Педиатры рекомендуют одевать ребенка в хлопок как минимум до года, чтобы избежать всяких раздражений на коже. Поэтому посмотрите что написано на этикетке - часто очень приятные на ощупь вещи имеют в составе 100 % polyester, а это не лучший вариант для маленького. Кстати, это касается не только одежды , но и пеленок, постели и прочего текстиля.

4. Go for simple. In my personal shopping experience, I've seen new parents (and excited relatives) buy their babies $450 Burberry cashmere outfits and $300 Ralph Lauren gift sets. While the quality of these items is certainly superior, they are more of a splurge for parents than a necessity for the baby - he won't know that the blanky he just spit up on is in classic Burberry check, nor will he care. I try not to tell people how to spend their money, but my personal feeling is that it's best to limit how many pricey items you buy in the first year, even if you have the means. They simply won't last. 

Instead, opt out for affordable basics that will be comfortable for your baby and easy on your budget. A great place to shop for these is Carters because they have a fantastic return policy - bring back whatever you haven't used at any time, as long as you have a receipt. RU: 4. Чем проще - тем лучше. Через меня часто заказывают товары для малышей. Бывает что заказывают очень дорогие вещи, например кашемировый комплект Burberry за $450 или подарочный набор от Ralph Lauren за $300. Безусловно, эти вещи очень хорошего качества, но иногда мне кажется что покупают их не столько за качество, сколько за марку на этикетке. Например, зачем нужен набор слюнявчиков от Burberry за $130? Ребенку все равно на что выплевывать еду, будь то полотенечко кухонное обычное или фирменный слюнявчик с логотипами. Да, есть некоторые вещи, например зимние конверты, на которые действительно стоит потратить деньги т.к. они оправдывают свою стоимость качеством, или вещи которые хочется купить на память (например, серебряная ложечка от Tiffany или кроссовочки, как мы купили). Но будьте готовы к тому что ребенок может эти вещи не оценить по достоинству, а иногда - просто испортить.  

Поэтому я советую на каждый день запастись basics в недорогих магазинах - например в Carters. Там можно выбрать вещи хорошего качества (только смотрите на состав и выбирайте хлопок) в которых ребенку будет комфортно и которые не жалко будет выкинуть когда он из них вырастет или когда они придут в негодность. Полный список магазинов для Baby можно посмотреть тут.

5. An advice from a new mom: A friend of mine just had a baby this summer and told me that the baby will need less items than you anticipate. You will need your swaddling blankets (these are excellent quality!), but less clothes than you have the urge to buy. To contain your purchasing power, my suggestion is to set aside a few days for baby shopping and buy what you need at that time, as oppose to shopping at the whim, any time you are near a baby store. 

RU: 5. Совет от мамочки: моя подруга недавно стала мамой и поделилась своим опытом - ребенку нужно меньше чем Вам хочется купить. На самом деле, многие товары скорее для родителей чем для детей. Да, нужны пеленки (например вот эти очень хорошие), кроватка и коляска, но некоторые вещи не пригодятся вообще. Чтобы не понакупать не нужного, я советую выделить несколько дней на шопинг для Baby и постараться за эти дни приобрести все что нужно, по составленному заранее списку, вместо того чтобы покупать по несколько вещей каждый раз когда вы проходите мимо детского магазина.

EN: Keep in mind that clothes are a very small fraction of what the baby really needs. This is what our nursery looked like after our baby shower (you can't see it all in the picture - there is also a changing table, a bassinet, a highchair, a pack'n'play and a world of bottles buried under all that stuff in the far left corner...). All these things are big, bulky and take up a lot of room, not to mention cost a pretty penny. So before you splurge on yet another outfit, make sure you have all the other necessities.

Here is a rough list of what the baby may need in her first year (with links!):

1. Car seat (you will not be allowed to leave the hospital without one properly installed in your car)

2. Stroller, baby carrier (sling)

3. Baby monitor, outlet covers and other safety gear, first aid kit

4. Highchair, cups and bowls

5. Crib, bassinet, mattress, bedding, changing table

6. Bottles, bottle sterilizer, pacifiers, breast pump (go with a dual electric one to save time and effort and check with your insurance - they might cover the cost), nursing pillow

7. Baby bath tub, towels, robe

8. Diapers (8-10 a day - sign up for Amazon Mom and save 15% every time!), baby wipes, diaper pail.

9. Play yard, play mat, bouncer

10. Books and toys.

RU: Имейте в виду, что одежда это - малая доля того, что понадобится ребенку в первый год жизни. Вот так выглядела наша детская после baby shower - причем на фото не видно пеленальный столик, люльку, стульчик для кормления, манеж и целый склад бутылочек, которые прячутся в левом углу. Все эти вещи занимают много места и составляют большую часть Вашего Baby бюджета. Поэтому, прежде чем покупать очередной наряд для малыша, убедитесь, что у Вас есть все необходимое из этого списка:

1. Автокресло.
2. Коляска, переноска (слинг)
3. Радио монитор, крышки для розеток, защитные уголки для мебели, аптечка
4. Стульчик для кормления, детская посуда
5. Кроватка, люлька, матрас , постель, пеленальный столик
6. Бутылочки, стерилизатор, пустышки, молокоотсос (лучше выбрать электрический, с двойными насадками), подушка для кормления
7. Ванночка, полотенца, халатик
8. Подгузники ( 8-10 штук в день), салфетки, ведро для использованных подгузников.
9. Манеж, коврик для игр, укачивающий стульчик
10. Книжки и игрушки.
