Newborn Parenting Nightmares that End by 6 Months

EN: Nicholas is 6 months old today!!! I can't quite process this fact. The time went by too quickly. He's got three teeth, he sits, he stands, he crawls, he reaches for everything, he is curious about the whole world and he's a totally different baby than he was just a few months ago.

When you have a newborn, you are sleep-deprived and clueless. As you try to figure out this new world you've landed yourself in, everyone will tell you it will get better soon. They just don't say how soon, exactly. 

While some issues go away on their own, others you will have to work on. And, as you hold a crying newborn in your arms for three hours without being able to put him or her to sleep, remember - this is the most precious time you get with your baby. These are the easy days! Your job as a parent will only get more difficult as they get older (everyone told me this but I didn't believe it until Nicky became mobile!)

Here are some things that will get easier and change by the time the baby is half a year old.

Spring Clothes For Baby

Spring is a beautiful time. Trees are blossoming,  grass is turning green, it is finally warm outside,  but not quite warm enough. Moms are often concerned how to dress their little ones so they aren't too warm or too cold. I'm going to share some of our outfits and some suggestions on what to dress the baby in this season.

10 Common Baby-Raising Myths

EN: Nicky is quite a free spirit. He hated being swaddled as a newborn. He likes to have his arms free and his legs wiggling. He hates car seat or stroller straps. All he wants to do is stand on his feet every waking minute. He loves swimming and splashing about in a tub. So it was no surprise to us that by five months he was able to sit unassisted and stand with little support. 

However, some people are surprised and concerned with his advancement. I was told he might have back problems from standing up too soon or pelvic misalignment from sitting up or speech delay because I speak several languages to him. Most of this advice is purely anecdotal or fictional and therefore gets ignored. However, it has inspired me to write this post about the most common baby-raising myths and old wives tales.

RU: Николай - человек свободолюбивый. Он вырывался из пеленок, не любит когда его пристёгивают в коляске или авто-кресле; ему нужно махать ножками и ручками. Он обожает плескаться в ванной. В 2 месяца он стал опираться на ножки, когда его держали, и пытался сесть. Сейчас, в 5 месяцев, он уже сам сидит и стоит с небольшой поддержкой. Для нас - это не удивительно; мы каждый день наблюдаем за его развитием. 

Но, со стороны все поражаются его темпу, и, конечно же, дают нам советы. Не ставьте на ножки - повредите спинку. Не садите так рано - повредите тазобедренный сустав. Не говорите с ним на нескольких языках, он так ни один не выучит. Не знаю зачем пророчить ребенку такие ужасы, особенно если они не подкреплены научными исследованиями. Но это не мешает нам радоваться нашим успехам, а, наоборот, вдохновило меня на сегодняшний пост, о самых популярных советах-мифах.

How not to kill your husband after having a baby

EN: I love my husband. He is my rock, my best friend and a constant in my life for many years. He was there for me every minute of my pregnancy and labor. But after Nicky was born things changed. All of a sudden I no longer come first and neither does he - the baby does.  

It took some time for us to adjust to that, and I would lie if I said we didn't fight about stupid things like who gets more sleep or who works more hours. But every time after the dust settles in the end of every argument I feel that we both learn something and grown closer together. 

As a  sleep-deprived new mom, it can be hard to be patient and understanding towards your significant other, but it is often necessary. Here are some things that help:

EN: Last weekend I went out to the Glitz & Glam, a shopping event. After much anxiety over who will watch the baby, detailed instructions on what and when to feed him and Nicky spitting up all over my new jeans when I was about to leave, I was finally shoved out the door and told to enjoy my freedom. Sad to say, I do not go out too often these days sans baby. I'm still breastfeeding, and I've grown so attached to Nicky that the idea of leaving him is unsettling. Whenever I am away from home I find myself checking the FosCam app obsessively. Even at the event, amid all the jewelry and make up vendors, I gravitated to a stand with baby gear and bought my little one sunglasses. I was going to write that I will try to dedicate more time to myself and go out more often, but the truth is I am really enjoying being a mom. I want to soak up every minute I get to share with my baby. And the happiest times for me are long strolls with the carriage, morning feedings and giving this little frog a bath. Nothing is more precious. It won't always be this way and one day I will find myself with a grown child and all the time in the world for myself. But for now, I'm just happy being a mom.

RU: На прошлых выходных я оставила ребенка с бабушкой и пошла на вечер шопинга для местных модниц и бутиков. После того как я несколько раз повторила чем и как кормить Николая, с чем он любит играть и когда ему менять подгузник, меня буквально выставили за дверь и дали команду отдыхать. Однако, мой мозг совершенно не мог отключится от ребенка и я периодически проверяла домашние камеры с телефона, чтобы убедится что у них там все в порядке. Честно говоря, я не часто хожу куда-то без Николая. Во-первых, я кормлю; во вторых, я так привязана к малышу, что мне сложно представить, как его вообще можно оставить без мамы даже на пару часов. Даже на мероприятии, среди украшений и косметики, я нашла стенд с детскими вещами и купила нашему пупсу солнечные очки. Может быть, это не правильно. Может быть, нужно давать ребенку больше свободы, уделять себе больше времени, чаще выбираться в люди. Но, честно говоря, не хочется. Хочется проводить каждую минутку с ним, ведь он так быстро растет и меняется день ото дня. Иногда, мне становится немного грустно когда я понимаю, что он уже никогда не будет таким крохотным новорожденным, который полностью зависил от меня. И не хочется пропускать ни одного мгновения! Когда Николай станет взрослым, у меня будет масса времени на себя. А пока, просто хочется быть с ним рядом.
